New Delhi, July 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a significant operation, the Delhi Police apprehended a drug peddler in the capital on Wednesday and confiscated close to 1 kg of marijuana from his possession.
The accused, identified as Devender alias Mangal, was apprehended by the Nand Nagri police team during the anti-narcotics drive.
The 35-year-old drug peddler is a habitual offender with multiple instances of involvement in similar crimes. He was found to be previously booked in 6 criminal cases related to robbery, theft, house theft, and the Arms Act.
The police team, acting on secret information and local intelligence, traced his whereabouts and nabbed him last evening at around 7:45 PM.
During the search, 215 pouches containing hydroponic weed (Ganja/marijuana), estimated to be 752 grams, were recovered from his possession.
He was booked under Section 20 of the NDPS Act, and a case was registered at Nand Nagri police station.
During investigation, it was found that the accused is a habitual offender with previous involvement in six criminal cases relating to robbery, theft, house theft, and offences under the Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered contraband, identify the supply chain, and determine any involvement of other persons.
The peddler’s arrest came close on the heels of a crackdown on interstate narcotics trafficking in which more than 765 kg of Ganja, with an estimated market worth of Rs 2.30 crores, was seized on Monday.
The police successfully dismantled the narcotics network and broke the back of the syndicate operating across states, including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. The accused, during grilling, admitted that a rented godown was used to store large consignments of ganja before they were distributed to different locations.
Just a week ago, the crackdown on drug syndicates saw the arrest of 12 drug peddlers, including a Nigerian national.
The police found cocaine, heroin, MDMA, ganja, and poppy husk during an anti-narcotics drive and arrested all of them under the NDPS Act.
