Mahima Makwana Calls Vikrant Massey “The Most Genuine Person”; Says Musafir Cafe Is “A Breath of Fresh Air”

Mahima Makwana is stepping into an emotionally layered love story with Netflix's Musafir Cafe, and for the actress, the project was memorable not just because of its story but also because it reunited her with Vikrant Massey after years. Speaking at the trailer preview press meet in Mumbai, which was attended by Vikrant Massey, Vedika Pinto, creator Sharanya Rajgopal and the rest of the team, Mahima opened up about working with Vikrant, filming in Mussoorie, and why the series holds a special place in her heart.

Reflecting on her first meeting with Vikrant, Mahima revealed that their association dates back to the very beginning of her acting journey. "I actually met Vikrant when I was 10, right when I started my career. My career began with Balika Vadhu, and that's when I met him," she recalled.

The actress was all praise for her co-star, saying that despite his tremendous success over the years, Vikrant has remained exactly the same person she first met. "I have to say, he hasn't changed a bit. I remember him being the kindest and most hardworking person—and I truly mean this—he is the most genuine person. I think that reflects in his art and his work."

Mahima also spoke about their on-screen collaboration, crediting Vikrant for creating a comfortable environment for his fellow actors. "I had a great time working with Vikrant because he is such an amazing collaborator; he lets you be yourself—he is a very, very giving actor."

Apart from the performances, one of the biggest highlights of Musafir Cafe for Mahima was shooting amidst the scenic landscapes of Mussoorie. The actress revealed that she has always felt deeply connected to the mountains, making the filming experience even more meaningful. "Speaking of Mussoorie—I've always felt the strongest connection to the mountains. So, when I found out the story was set in Mussoorie and Bhopal, I was absolutely thrilled."

She even admitted that owning a café in the hills has long been one of her personal dreams. "I've always wanted to venture into owning a café, and I feel most connected to the mountains. As soon as I arrived in Mussoorie, I didn't have to put in much effort; I simply surrendered to the experience, and the mountains and Mussoorie took care of me."

Mahima also took the opportunity to thank the entire creative team behind the project, expressing gratitude to Netflix and creator Sharanya Rajgopal for bringing the story to life. "Thank you to the entire Netflix team—Tanya, Shikha, and Karishma—for welcoming me into your family, and especially Sharanya. Thank you for writing this story."

Describing Musafir Cafe as exactly the kind of story audiences have been waiting for, she added, "As everyone has said, it's a breath of fresh air—something we were all looking for. So, thank you for creating this."

The actress revealed that she is just as excited to watch the series as she is to hear how audiences connect with it. "More than just as an actor, I think as an audience member, I'm looking forward to experiencing the personal impact Musafir has had on me, and I'm eager to hear what you all think about it."

Based on Divya Prakash Dubey's bestselling novel, Musafir Cafe follows the emotional journey of Chander (Vikrant Massey), whose life is shaped by two women—Sudha (Vedika Pinto), the love he cannot forget, and Preeti (Mahima Makwana), who offers him a chance at a peaceful future. Created by Sharanya Rajgopal and directed by Ruchir Arun, the romantic drama is set against the picturesque backdrops of Mussoorie and Bhopal, and also stars Adil Hussain, Rajeev Siddhartha, Loveleen Mishra, and Sadiya Siddiqui.
