Chennai, July 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu Law Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) joint general secretary R. Nirmalkumar on Tuesday strongly rejected allegations that the ruling party was luring leaders from rival parties through horse-trading, insisting that those joining TVK were doing so out of political conviction rather than monetary inducements.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, Nirmalkumar said several leaders from the DMK and the AIADMK had become disillusioned with their respective party leaderships and were choosing to leave on their own.
He maintained that such voluntary decisions could not be equated with political poaching.
"Horse-trading refers to elected representatives being offered money or inducements to defect. If leaders resign because they no longer have faith in the leadership of M.K. Stalin or Edappadi K. Palaniswami and decide to pursue a different political path, that is a personal decision and not horse-trading," he said.
The minister asserted that TVK had not approached or persuaded anyone to join the party.
"We have not invited leaders from any political party. If they resign on their own and express a desire to become part of TVK, how can we refuse them?" he asked.
Taking a swipe at the Opposition, Nirmalkumar claimed that allegations of political horse-trading had instead become associated with former minister V. Senthilbalaji and his supporters.
He also dismissed the complaint submitted by DMK organisation secretary R.S. Bharathi to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the alleged poaching of legislators, describing it as an exercise undertaken merely for "timepass".
The minister also launched a sharp attack on the AIADMK, claiming that the principal Opposition party's organisational structure had weakened significantly after the Assembly elections.
According to him, the AIADMK's influence is now largely confined to a few districts in southern Tamil Nadu.
"Beyond a handful of southern districts, the party has virtually no organisational network. Many of its own cadre barely remember that it even has a general secretary," he remarked.
In a sarcastic reference to speculation over future political alignments, Nirmalkumar quipped that former AIADMK minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji and DMK minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan could eventually become the coordinators of a DMK-AIADMK alliance.
On governance, the minister clarified that members of the public wishing to meet Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay could seek appointments through the Chief Minister's Office.
He also reiterated that the state government's two-language policy remained unchanged and said complaints relating to party funds were under examination, with appropriate action being taken wherever necessary.
