Bengal: Man arrested with silver bars valued at Rs 14 lakh

Kolkata, July 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Railway Police arrested a person with multiple silver bars weighing a total of 6.5 kg from Howrah Metro Station, said a senior police officer on Tuesday.

An official said that the silver bars were recovered from the passenger's bag during baggage scanning.

"The estimated market value of the silver is around Rs 14 lakh," he said.

The incident took place at around 1 pm. The police were informed immediately. Later, the recovered silver and the accused were handed over to the Golabari police by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

It is learnt that the passenger arrived at Howrah Metro Station in the afternoon and scanned his handbag in the luggage scanning machine. The RPF on duty saw something suspicious inside the bag in the scanner, triggering a stir throughout the metro station. The jawans were alerted about this.

The RPF jawans then identified the passenger. After conducting a check, multiple silver bars were recovered from his bag. The passenger could not show any valid documents for the silver. After that, the RPF informed the Golabari police station. The police arrived at the metro station and arrested the passenger. The recovered silver bars have also been confiscated.

According to the police, the market value of the recovered silver is Rs 13,88,000. The arrested person is being interrogated to know where he got these silver bars from and where he was taking them. It is being investigated whether anyone else is involved in this incident. The police are also investigating whether this type of smuggling has happened before from the metro station.
