Ayodhya seers support cleric’s demand for probe into Waqf board ‘scam’

Ayodhya, July 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The embezzlement controversy got a fresh twist on Tuesday with a Muslim cleric calling for a similar investigation into alleged irregularities in the Waqf Boards. The demand for a probe on the lines of the Ram Temple is finding support from multiple quarters, including the saints and seers from Ayodhya.

A couple of seers supported Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi's demand for a probe into Waqf Boards' accounts, stating that greater transparency will inspire greater confidence in religious institutions and also deepen the trust of people from the Islamic faith.

Barelvi, the President of All India Muslim Jamaat, on Tuesday alleged a major scam within the Sunni and Shia Waqf Boards. He also wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking an investigation into these irregularities. The Maulana claimed that if a proper investigation is conducted, the scale of the scam would surpass even that of the Ram Mandir issue.

Responding to the claims, Ayodhya's saint Vishnu Das Maharaj supported his call for an impartial probe into the affairs and functioning of the Waqf Board and noted that large-scale irregularities in Waqf properties occurred during the Samajwadi Party government's tenure, warranting a fair investigation.

He said Barelvi's concerns were genuine and expressed confidence that an investigation is approved by the state administration, thereby paving the way for fixing the wrongs and punishing the guilty.

He emphasised the need for transparency in matters related to Waqf properties, madrasas, mosques, and dargahs. According to him, if corruption has occurred in the management of any religious institution or property, it must be investigated, and legal action should be taken against the perpetrators. He also praised Barelvi for showing courage to raise an issue concerning his own community.

Sitaram Das Maharaj, another Ayodhya seer, extended support to Barelvi and called for a high-level inquiry into alleged scams within the Waqf Board.

He remarked that religious properties are linked to the faith and beliefs of any community; therefore, complete transparency was needed in their management. He asserted that strict action should be taken against those who have misused Waqf properties or committed irregularities regarding the land, ensuring that no one dares to engage in such misconduct in the future.

He also responded to the Uttarakhand government's decision to halt state grants to madrasas. Welcoming the move, he emphasised the necessity to ensure transparency and quality within the education system. He stated that children deserve a better education and should have opportunities to excel in fields such as medicine, engineering, and the civil services.
