Chhattisgarh: Monsoon Session opens with Tejan Bai tributes, ruckus over Ram Mandir Trust theft

Raipur, July 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday with a poignant tribute to the legendary folk artist and Padma Vibhushan awardee Tejan Bai, who passed away recently.

The House observed a two-minute silence in her memory and adjourned proceedings for five minutes as a mark of respect.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, while speaking on the condolence motion, highlighted Tejan Bai's immense contribution to Chhattisgarh's cultural heritage.

He said she gave a new identity to the Kapalik style of Pandwani and took the state's folk culture to the global stage through her extraordinary artistry.

The Chief Minister noted that despite challenging social circumstances, her struggle and talent helped her achieve great heights, and her life would continue to inspire future generations.

Her demise, he added, has caused an irreparable loss to the state.

Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal described Tejan Bai as an artist who brought international recognition to Chhattisgarh. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel remembered her as someone who rose above limited resources and difficult conditions to bring glory to the state, remarking that her life stands as a symbol of struggle and dedication.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap recalled Tejan Bai's arduous journey and devotion to folk art, stating that the world of folk culture had lost an invaluable treasure.

Ministers and MLAs, including Gajendra Yadav, Kiran Singh Deo, Anuj Sharma, Anila Bhediya, Kunwar Singh Nishad, and Bhaiyalal Korsewada, also paid rich tributes, remembering her pioneering role in preserving and popularising Pandwani.

However, as the session proceedings resumed for business, a heated verbal exchange between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress over the alleged theft of offerings from the Ram Mandir took place.

The opposition moved an adjournment motion on the issue, which the House rejected, triggering strong protests from Congress members.

Following the rejection, proceedings were initially adjourned. When the House reconvened, the deadlock persisted with loud arguments and slogan-shouting from both sides. Amid the massive uproar, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh adjourned the proceedings till Tuesday.
