Indore, July 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) A woman officer posted with the Department of Posts was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at their residence in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Saturday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Urmila Saini, who was serving with the postal department in Indore. The incident took place at the Postal Colony in Manorama Ganj under the jurisdiction of the Sanyogitaganj police station.
According to police, the accused, identified as Akhilesh Saini, allegedly attacked his wife with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds that proved fatal. The woman died on the spot before she could receive medical assistance.
In a development that has stunned investigators, the accused allegedly went to his daughter's school immediately after the murder, handed over an ATM card to her, and then fled. Police said they are verifying the sequence of events and examining CCTV footage from the school and surrounding areas as part of the investigation.
A senior police officer told the press after reaching the crime spot that on reaching the house, they found the woman lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries. The officer added that the body had been sent for post-mortem examination, a case had been registered, and efforts were underway to trace and arrest the accused.
The police officer said multiple police teams have been constituted to search for the accused, who has been absconding since the incident.
The officer added that the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established, and that statements of family members, neighbours and other persons acquainted with the couple were being recorded.
Forensic experts have inspected the crime scene and collected evidence, and the investigation is progressing on all possible angles.
Police said the murder weapon is suspected to be a knife, though further details will be confirmed during the investigation. Investigators are also trying to ascertain whether there had been any domestic dispute between the couple that could have led to the crime.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.
