Bengal CM directs police to demolish illegal liquor and marijuana joints

Kolkata, July 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday directed the state police to immediately act and demolish all illegal liquor and marijuana joints throughout the state within the next two weeks.

The Chief Minister said the mushrooming liquor and marijuana joints throughout the state during the previous Trinamool Congress regime often hampered the safety and security of women in the areas where such joints used to operate.

According to him, the crime against the 12-year-old minor girl, allegedly raped and killed at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district last week, was also committed by the accused in a highly inebriated state, and any illegal liquor joint in the area might have played a role behind it.

At the same time, the Chief Minister urged the common people to immediately inform the local police station about any illegal liquor joint operating in their respective localities.

After inaugurating a police station for the Suryapur area under Baruipur, where the crime against the minor girl took place on Saturday, the Chief Minister said there is a reason behind everything, and that illegal liquor and marijuana joints often play a major role in heinous crimes against women. He urged people to report these to the police.

Thereafter, he directed the state's Director General of Police to conduct a special drive throughout the state for the next two weeks, identify the illegal liquor and marijuana joints and demolish them.

The Chief Minister also said that such raids and search operations are conducted daily at places along the state's borders with Bangladesh. However, he said he wanted to see the same activity in rural areas as well, adding that the curse of illegal liquor and marijuana joints needs to be completely eradicated from rural areas as well. Only then, he said, would the environment be saved from this social pollution.
