Mehsana, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) A police constable posted at Kadi Police Station in Mehsana district has been arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 to settle a criminal complaint, officials said on Friday.
According to the ACB, the accused has been identified as Amin Husain Manjur Husain Sheikh, an unarmed Police Constable (Class III) attached to Kadi Police Station.
The trap was carried out on Thursday after a complainant approached the Gandhinagar ACB, alleging that the constable had demanded money in connection with a complaint registered against the complainant and his brothers at Langhnaj Police Station.
The ACB said the constable had initially demanded Rs two lakh to dispose of the case. Following negotiations with the complainant, the alleged demand was reduced to Rs 80,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant lodged a complaint with the Gandhinagar ACB, which organised a trap. During the operation, the accused allegedly accepted Rs 80,000 from the complainant on a public road between Irana Three Roads and Kadi.
ACB officers recovered the entire amount from the accused and registered a case alleging abuse of his position as a public servant and criminal misconduct under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The latest arrest is part of a series of anti-corruption operations carried out by the Gujarat ACB in recent months.
In late June, the bureau trapped an assistant head constable attached to Bopal Police Station in Ahmedabad Rural for allegedly accepting a Rs five lakh bribe while investigating a complaint, with a police sub-inspector also booked in the case.
Earlier this year, the ACB also conducted separate trap operations involving police personnel in Vadodara and officials from other government departments as part of its continuing drive against corruption.
