Kolkata, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) In his first visit as the new West Bengal Chief Minister to the minority-dominated Murshidabad district, Suvendu Adhikari on Friday issued a strong caution against recurrence of “hooliganism” and “corruption” in government functioning.
The Chief Minister first addressed a public rally at Rejinagar and later attended an administrative review meeting in Baharampur.
At the Rejinagar rally, Adhikari reminded that the West Bengal Public Safety & Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026, aimed at preventing corruption and anti-social activities, will come into effect from July 14.
He said events like damaging public property, attacking police stations, and beating up officers “will be matters of the past.” Strict measures are being taken to ensure women’s safety and prevent trafficking, with such cases to be tried swiftly.
“What happened in pockets of Murshidabad like Shamserganj and Dhulian will not happen again. Strict action will be taken against those resorting to hooliganism henceforth,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister added that citizens could contact his office to lodge grievances regarding police performance, assuring prompt action.
“But taking the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated. Any attempt or speech to incite violence will be dealt with strictly,” he said.
At the administrative review meeting, Adhikari cautioned against corruption in state government functioning and directed officials to ensure that welfare scheme benefits reach only genuine beneficiaries.
He also warned against issuance of fake birth and caste certificates and directed the state police to coordinate closely with the Border Security Force (BSF) to prevent illegal infiltration, given Murshidabad’s extensive international border with Bangladesh.
