New Delhi, July 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched the construction of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's Inderlok-Indraprastha Metro Corridor at the Sarai Rohilla Metro Station construction site.
On the occasion, construction of the diaphragm wall began at Sarai Rohilla Metro Station, marking the first phase of this important project, said an official statement.
The Chief Minister said that the Delhi Metro is not merely a mode of transport but the foundation of a developed Delhi, adding that the continued expansion of the Metro network is a historic step towards providing citizens with safe, fast, convenient and environment-friendly public transport.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, modern, world-class infrastructure is being rapidly developed across the country.
In line with this vision, the Delhi government is working in close coordination with the Central Government and the Delhi Metro to further strengthen public transport in the national capital.
The 12.377-km Inderlok-Indraprastha Corridor will be a fully underground extension of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line-8). The corridor will have 10 modern underground Metro stations at Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan Temple, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya-IG Stadium and Indraprastha, said the statement.
Once completed, the Magenta Line will extend to nearly 89 kilometres, making it the longest Metro line in the Delhi Metro network. It will also have the highest number of interchange and underground stations, making travel between different parts of the city faster, easier and more convenient.
The corridor will connect with seven major Metro lines, significantly improving connectivity across the capital. Passengers will be able to interchange with the Red and Green Lines at Inderlok, the Magenta Line at Nabi Karim, the Yellow Line and Airport Express (Orange Line) at New Delhi, the Violet Line at Delhi Gate and the Blue Line at Indraprastha.
The new Metro corridor will provide seamless connectivity to several important destinations, including Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi Sachivalaya, Jhandewalan Temple, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Delhi Gate, Kartavya Path, India Gate, the National War Memorial and Central Vista.
It will directly benefit government employees, students, traders, tourists and the lakhs of people who commute every day.
Public transport access to Karol Bagh, Deshbandhu Gupta Road, educational institutions, and major commercial areas will also become stronger and more convenient, the statement said.
