Patna, July 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted a major search operation in Bihar's East Champaran district as part of its ongoing investigation into an alleged human trafficking and international cyber fraud network, agency officials said.
The agency raided a house in Kalupakar village under the Phenhara police station limits and questioned the suspect, Mohammad Kalamuddin, for nearly five hours.
He has been directed to appear before the NIA in Patna on July 13 for further questioning.
According to an official, the NIA team, accompanied by security personnel, reached Kalupakar village at around 5 a.m. and cordoned off the residence before launching a search operation.
During the raid, investigators questioned the family members and examined several documents and digital devices.
Officials also scrutinised records that could assist in tracing the alleged network's activities.
Investigators allege that Mohammad Kalamuddin was connected to a network that lured Indian youths to Cambodia with promises of lucrative overseas employment.
Preliminary findings suggest that he came into contact with a youth from Gopalganj and allegedly assisted in arranging travel, including airline tickets and other logistics, for individuals being sent abroad.
According to the investigation, many of the youths who reached Cambodia were allegedly confined against their will and forced to participate in cybercrime operations, including online fraud, fake call centres, and digital scams.
Authorities are also examining allegations that those who resisted were harassed and prevented from returning to India.
Sources said that Mohammad Kalamuddin is named in an FIR filed under the NIA case, which relates to an investigation into alleged human trafficking, an overseas cybercrime syndicate, and a network accused of fraudulently sending Indian nationals abroad.
During the search, NIA officials questioned him about his contacts, bank transactions, foreign travel, mobile communications, social media activity, and online interactions.
His mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination, with investigators expected to analyse chats, call records, documents, and other digital evidence to determine the extent of his alleged involvement.
The NIA has said that the investigation remains ongoing and that further action will depend on the evidence recovered during the forensic examination.
Officials added that if the probe uncovers the involvement of additional individuals, appropriate legal action will be taken.
At present, Mohammad Kalamuddin has not been arrested. However, he has been served a notice directing him to appear before the agency's office in Patna on July 13 for further questioning.
The investigation is part of the NIA's broader crackdown on networks allegedly trafficking Indian youths to Southeast Asian countries -- including Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos -- under the guise of employment opportunities.
Authorities say many victims in such cases have later reported being forced to work in cyber fraud operations run by organised criminal syndicates.
The agency has been conducting coordinated searches and investigations across multiple states to identify and dismantle these transnational networks.
