Liverpool, July 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) English football club Liverpool has completed the signing of French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, following the agreement of a deal to sign him earlier this year.
Jacquet moved to Anfield after advancing through the youth ranks at Rennes to make 33 senior appearances. Of those, 21 came during the past 2025-26 campaign, which was cut short for the centre-back due to a shoulder injury sustained in February.
The Premier League club reached an agreement for the 20-year-old in January, and he has now signed a five-year contract at Anfield with the option of a further 12 months, subject to international clearance.
The defender is expected to be available from the start of pre-season after missing the end of his last campaign in France with a shoulder injury sustained in February.
Jacquet expressed joy after joining Liverpool and said that it is a dream-come-true moment for the 20-year-old.
“I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here, and I am very excited to get started. For me, it’s a big dream; it’s a big club. A club like Liverpool- it’s a big dream for me,” he said as quoted by the Liverpool official website.
The defender’s journey from the youth ranks at Rennes to the Premier League with the Reds was one he accelerated himself. After a first appearance for Rennes in January 2024, Jacquet opted to spend the next 12 months on loan at fellow French outfit Clermont Foot to gain experience. That deal was cut short in the New Year of 2025 when his parent club decided they would actually prefer to benefit from his obvious talents themselves.
Jacquet had earlier displayed his rich potential at the U19 European Championship in Northern Ireland in the summer of 2024. He was a starter for France as they produced a run to the final and finished runners-up to Spain, including a winning goal from the penalty spot in the group stage. Jacquet was named in the official Team of the Tournament.
