Assam: Security conference held ahead of Independence Day

Guwahati, July 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian Army's Red Shield Division, under the aegis of the Spear Corps, on Wednesday organised a security conference in Assam's Laipuli to strengthen coordination among security agencies and review preparedness for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, officials said.

The conference, held under the Army's Military-Civil Fusion initiative, brought together senior Army officers and officials of the Assam Police to chalk out a coordinated strategy for ensuring peaceful and incident-free Independence Day events across the region.

Among those present were the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts, along with other senior officials from the civil administration and security establishment.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing and proactive security planning in view of the heightened security arrangements required during national celebrations.

The participants deliberated on emerging security challenges and discussed measures to strengthen surveillance, improve information sharing and undertake coordinated preventive action to maintain law and order.

The conference also emphasised the need for seamless cooperation among the Army, state police and civil administration to ensure a swift response to any security contingency.

Officials underlined that robust coordination among all stakeholders remains critical to safeguarding public safety during Independence Day celebrations, when security agencies remain on heightened alert across the country.

The Army said the interaction forms part of its broader Military-Civil Fusion initiative, aimed at fostering closer cooperation between the armed forces and civil authorities in addressing security concerns and responding effectively to evolving challenges.

At the conclusion of the conference, all participating agencies reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and adopting a unified approach to ensure a safe, secure and peaceful Independence Day across the region.

The Army also reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Assam Police and civil administration to preserve peace, stability and public security in Upper Assam through regular coordination, joint planning and confidence-building measures.

Security agencies routinely conduct such coordination meetings ahead of major national events to review preparedness, strengthen intelligence mechanisms and ensure effective deployment of personnel across vulnerable and sensitive locations.
