Patna, June 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) An accused who escaped from police custody after a court appearance in Bihar's Gopalganj district on Tuesday is being sought by multiple police teams in an extensive search operation.
The incident occurred while police personnel from the Town Police Station were escorting the accused to Chanve Divisional Jail.
According to police, the accused jumped out of the police vehicle when it reached near Vrindavan Sadasi Rai Tola village on the Gopalganj–Mirganj NH-531. Officers immediately pursued him, but he managed to flee the scene, triggering a large-scale search operation.
Police identified the fugitive as Rahul Kumar Singh, son of Jitendra Singh and a resident of Devapur village under the Barauli police station area in Gopalganj. According to the police, he is an accused in a case related to the alleged abduction of a young woman.
Investigators said he had earlier been brought back to Gopalganj after being traced in Delhi with the woman and was being taken to jail following his court appearance. These allegations relate to the pending criminal case against him and remain subject to judicial proceedings.
After the escape, police teams from the Town Police Station and nearby stations arrived in the area and launched an intensive search.
Authorities have cordoned off the nearby Chanvar (low-lying wetland) area and conducted searches in surrounding villages. They have been raiding suspected hideouts and gathering information from local residents to trace the fugitive.
Police officials expressed confidence that the accused would be apprehended soon. Investigating officer Yashwant Singh of Town Police Station said that efforts to locate the fugitive are continuing. He stated that, at the time of reporting, no concrete lead had been found regarding Rahul Kumar Singh's whereabouts.
Police are also examining how the accused managed to escape from custody and whether there were any lapses in security during his transportation. The investigation into both the escape and the underlying criminal case is ongoing.
