New Delhi, June 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will release on Tuesday a special commemorative volume of speeches of Asutosh Mookerjee published by the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The volume titled “The Collected Speeches of Bengal Tiger Asutosh Mookerjee published by the Delhi Legislative Assembly, will be released to mark the 162nd birth anniversary of Mookerjee (1864–1924), said a statement issued by the Delhi Assembly on Monday.
The programme will be presided over by Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta at the Assembly House of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The commemorative volume brings together his parliamentary speeches in a single collection, making his enduring ideas on education, constitutional governance, institution building and public life accessible to legislators, scholars, researchers, students and the wider public.
The programme will be graced by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood as guests of Honour. Mohan Singh Bisht, Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, will also be present on the occasion. Members of the Legislative Assembly, eminent jurists, academicians, educationists, and scholars are expected to participate in the event, said the statement.
Popularly known as the “Bengal Tiger”, Mookerjee was one of the foremost educationists, jurists and nation builders of pre-Independence India.
A member of the Imperial Legislative Council, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta and later Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, he played a transformative role in advancing higher education, promoting scientific research, encouraging academic excellence and strengthening India’s intellectual foundations, said the statement.
The publication reflects the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s continuing endeavour to document and preserve the intellectual legacy of eminent national personalities who have shaped India’s democratic, educational and civilisational journey, said Speaker Vijender Gupta.
The Government of India issued a stamp in 1964 to commemorate Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee for his contribution to education.
