Kolkata, June 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) An FIR was registered on Monday against Trinamool Congress leaders Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen and Baiswanor Chattopadhyay at Hare Street Police Station for disrupting traffic for hours.
On Sunday, the Trinamool leaders inspected a road in front of Victoria House in the Esplanade area of central Kolkata to set up a stage for the party's annual July 21 Martyrs’ Day programme.
According to the police, the gathering on the road during peak hours disrupted traffic and inconvenienced daily commuters. Therefore, an FIR has been filed against the three Trinamool leaders in this regard.
The FIR states that Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen and Baiswanor Chattopadhyay blocked the road from 2:50 pm to 4 pm on June 28. The Hare Street police station has issued a notice against the three Trinamool leaders and asked them to respond.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday took a dig at the Trinamool Congress's July 21 stage construction incident in the state Assembly.
Recalling the Trinamool Congress's request for permission for its programme on Rani Rashmoni Road, he said the permission was sought for a procession. They initially thought there would be a large crowd, so permission was not granted for the road. The police had given permission for a meeting on the side of the road.
Now they have sought permission from the police to hold another event. One group of the Trinamool Congress is saying that they are the real ones, while the other group is claiming they are lampposts, he added in a sarcastic tone.
Adhikari further said that if they want, they should go to the Brigade, questioning why they were blocking the road for inspection.
A tug-of-war has begun over the observance of Trinamool's July 21 Martyrs' Day programme in Kolkata.
After the Mamata Banerjee faction sought permission from the Kolkata Police to hold the programme in the Esplanade area of central Kolkata on July 21, the rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress, led by Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ritabrata Banerjee, has also approached the police for permission to hold the same event.
On Saturday evening, the rebel Trinamool Congress camp sent a letter to the Kolkata Police regarding this. The rebel faction has now decided to observe the Martyrs' Day programme, claiming to be the 'real Trinamool Congress'.
The development came after the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, sought police permission for the same demand.
The Trinamool Congress holds its annual 'Martyrs' Day' rally in Kolkata on July 21. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee addresses a public meeting during the rally to commemorate the 13 people who were killed during a demonstration by the West Bengal Youth Congress, then led by Mamata Banerjee, on July 21, 1993.
When the Trinamool was in the opposition during the Left Front era, there were large gatherings on July 21 at Mamata's call. But after a decade and a half in power, now the opposition Trinamool is apparently in a state of disarray with both factions staking a claim on the party's Martyrs' Day programme.
