Guwahati, June 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Police have continued their sustained crackdown on narcotics trafficking with another major intelligence-led operation in Cachar district, recovering 10,000 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 1 crore from a clandestine unit operating under the guise of a furniture shop and arresting one person, officials said on Monday.
The latest seizure marks the second major success against drug traffickers in the district within 24 hours, reflecting the intensified efforts of security agencies to dismantle organised narcotics networks operating along the Assam-Mizoram border.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation on social media platform X, congratulating the Cachar Police for the successful raid.
"Just 24 hours after a big catch, another one lands in the soup! In an intel-backed operation, Cachar Police recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets worth around Rs 1 crore from a clandestine unit disguised as a furniture shop and apprehended one accused. Assam Police isn't letting up," Sarma said.
Police said the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal storage of narcotics.
Acting swiftly, the police team raided the premises and recovered the consignment of Yaba tablets while arresting the suspected drug peddler.
Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the contraband, its intended destination and possible links to a wider interstate or cross-border trafficking network.
The latest operation comes a day after the Assam Rifles and Cachar Police jointly seized narcotics worth around Rs 5 crore during an anti-drug operation in the Lailapur area along the Assam-Mizoram border.
During Saturday night's operation, security personnel recovered 42 soap cases containing suspected heroin worth nearly Rs 2 crore and 10,000 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 3 crore.
Two alleged drug traffickers were arrested after attempting to flee, while two mobile phones were also seized from their possession.
The back-to-back recoveries underscore the Assam government's continued offensive against narcotics trafficking.
Security agencies have intensified intelligence-based operations along the sensitive Assam-Mizoram border, a corridor frequently used by drug syndicates to smuggle heroin, methamphetamine tablets and other contraband into the region.
