ACB arrests Jaipur civic engineer in Rs 80,000 bribery case

Jaipur, June 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Acting on the directions of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Headquarters, the ACB Outpost SU-I, Jaipur, on Monday arrested Sanjay Kumar Bairwa, a Junior Engineer posted in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Civil Lines Zone, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000.

Director General, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Govind Gupta, stated that the action was taken following a complaint received by the ACB Outpost SU-I, Jaipur.

According to the complaint, the complainant had applied to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Civil Lines Zone) for permission to demolish an old, dilapidated house and construct a new building.

After nearly four months, the seal on the property was removed and approval was granted for the construction of a basement, ground floor and first floor.

However, on June 3, 2026, accused Sanjay Kumar Bairwa, Junior Engineer, along with Deendayal, a Class IV employee, allegedly visited the construction site and threatened to reseal the property, deploy security personnel and stop the ongoing construction.

The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, purportedly on behalf of himself and the then Deputy Commissioner, Sunil Bairwa, in return for allowing the construction work to continue without obstruction.

Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification.

During verification on June 4, 2026, the demand for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh by accused Sanjay Kumar Bairwa was confirmed.

Acting at his direction, co-accused Deendayal allegedly accepted Rs 20,000 as part of the bribe.

Thereafter, Sanjay Kumar Bairwa allegedly continued demanding the remaining amount from the co-complainant in exchange for not sealing his father's property, removing the existing seal and permitting the construction work to proceed unhindered.

Based on the verification, a trap operation was planned and executed by Police Inspector Archana Meena under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr Rameshwar Singh and the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Kaushik.

During the trap conducted on Monday, the accused allegedly unlocked his Maruti Fox vehicle (Registration No. RJ-60-CH-1901) and instructed the co-complainant to place Rs 80,000 in the dashboard compartment near the gear lever before locking the vehicle again.

The ACB team recovered the entire bribe amount from the dashboard compartment.

A chemical test of the compartment yielded a positive pink-colour reaction, indicating contact with the treated currency notes.

In addition, Rs 27,400 in cash was recovered from the accused's wallet for verification.

The preliminary investigation has established that the complainant's official work was pending with the accused.

The accused is being interrogated, and further legal proceedings are being conducted under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala.

The ACB is registering a case under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau appealed to citizens to actively participate in the fight against corruption.

Complaints may be lodged round the clock through the ACB's toll-free helpline 1064 or WhatsApp helpline 9413502834.

The Bureau assured full assistance in ensuring that citizens' legitimate work is carried out without corruption.
