Will bring strong law in Bengal against forceful religious conversion, love jihad: CM Adhikari

Kolkata, June 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The West Bengal government will soon bring a strong law to prevent incidents of forceful religious conversion and love jihad in the state, said the new and ninth Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday.

“West Bengal will move forward with the slogan of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as its guiding principle. Along with the Uniform Civil Code, the state government is going to bring strict laws against Land Jihad, Love Jihad and forced religious conversion,” the Chief Minister said while addressing a function on the occasion of the 189th birth anniversary of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the writer of India's national song, Vande Mataram.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister further said that henceforth West Bengal will have no place for anti-national forces and individuals.

“West Bengal is the land of Chaitanya Dev, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Besides bringing strict laws against Land Jihad, Love Jihad and forceful religious conversion, we are committed to first sending illegal infiltrators to holding centres and from there to the place they came from,” the Chief Minister said.

He also said that the state government under his leadership would never allow anti-national activities on the soil of West Bengal.

“The people of West Bengal had done half the work of protecting the state from anti-national activities in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls. The remaining task will be completed by us. West Bengal will have no place for those who ridicule Operation Sindoor, insult the nation and remain silent during the Pahalgam attack,” the Chief Minister said.

However, the Chief Minister said that all refugees who have taken shelter in India due to religious persecution would be granted citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

On Monday, five new Bills will be placed on the floor of the West Bengal Assembly, of which the two most crucial Bills will be those concerning the Uniform Civil Code and measures to address anti-social activities in the state.

With the tabling of the Uniform Civil Code Bill on Monday, West Bengal will be the fourth Indian state to adopt a system replacing the existing religion-based personal laws with a single, unified set of civil laws that apply equally to all citizens, irrespective of religion, caste or tribe.

The three other states that have already adopted the UCC are Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam.
