Bihar: Two Uzbek women held at Raxaul border while attempting to enter Nepal

Patna, June 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a significant development along the India-Nepal border, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Friday apprehended two women from Uzbekistan who were allegedly residing illegally in India while attempting to cross into Nepal through the Raxaul border in Bihar's East Champaran district.

The women were detained near the Maitri Bridge at Custom Chowk under the jurisdiction of Haraiya police station during routine border checking operations.

According to an official, an SSB team deployed at the Raxaul border noticed two foreign nationals attempting to cross from India into Nepal under suspicious circumstances.

During questioning, their responses raised further suspicion.

Subsequent verification revealed that both women were citizens of Uzbekistan and allegedly did not possess valid documents authorising their stay in India.

The two women have been identified as Makhfuza Dekhkonova (32), a resident of the Kuva (Quqon) district in Uzbekistan's Fergana region, and Maftuna Kilicheva (35), a resident of Jo'jaobod village in the Payariq district of the Samarkand region.

Authorities stated that both women were unable to produce valid immigration or residency documents during the inquiry.

After their detention, the SSB handed both women over to the Haraiya police station for further investigation.

According to the SHO of Haraiya police station, Kishan Paswan, the women are being questioned to determine when and how they entered India, the duration of their stay in the country, their places of residence while in India, the purpose of their attempted journey to Nepal, and the status of their visas and travel documents.

Police and security agencies are examining the passports and other documents recovered from the women.

Investigators are also attempting to establish whether their stay in India had exceeded the validity of their visas.

Officials are further examining whether the case is connected to organised illegal migration or other international networks.

However, no such links have been established so far.

The India-Nepal border in the Raxaul sector remains sensitive because of the ease of cross-border movement.

Security agencies, including the SSB and local police, regularly conduct surveillance and checking operations in the area.

In recent months, authorities have reported several cases involving smuggling, illegal border crossings, and unauthorised movement of individuals through the Raxaul corridor.

The two women remain in police custody, and further legal action will be taken after the investigation and verification of their immigration status are completed.
