Fresh case registered against Abhishek Banerjee’s aide over alleged job scam

Kolkata, June 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) A fresh FIR has been registered against Sumit Roy, the absconding executive assistant of Trinamool Congress General Secretary and the party’s Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee.

In the fresh FIR registered at Debra Police Station in West Midnapore district, Roy has been accused of duping people of several lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs in the state government during the previous Mamata Banerjee-led regime.

Earlier, a district court in West Midnapore district had issued an arrest warrant against him in connection with another case filed at Salboni Police Station in the same district, where he has been accused in an alleged illegal land-grabbing case.

The police have also issued a lookout notice to prevent him from escaping abroad. Roy is currently absconding.

Roy’s name surfaced in both the alleged land-grabbing case and the alleged jobs-for-money scam following statements made by former Trinamool Congress legislator Sujoy Hazra, who was arrested earlier this month by West Bengal Police on charges of corruption.

Earlier this month, a joint team from Salboni Police Station, Kolkata Police and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) conducted raid and search operations at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence on Kalighat Road in south Kolkata in search of Roy.

The raid and search operations were conducted at the residence of Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, because the last location traced through Roy’s mobile phone tower data indicated his presence at the residence.

Abhishek Banerjee has been questioned multiple times over the last month in three separate cases by two investigating agencies — the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The ED questioned him in connection with the multi-crore cash-for-school jobs case in West Bengal.

The CID, meanwhile, questioned him in two separate matters — one related to the alleged mismatch of legislators’ signatures in West Bengal and the other concerning alleged violence-inciting statements made ahead of the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls.
