Chennai, June 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has crossed the two-crore membership mark, party sources said on Saturday, underlining the remarkable growth of the organisation within a little over two years of its launch.
Party functionaries and supporters celebrated the milestone on social media, describing it as a reflection of TVK's growing acceptance among people across Tamil Nadu.
The achievement comes barely a month after the party formed its first government in the state, following a historic victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Launched by actor-turned-politician Vijay in February 2024, TVK rapidly expanded its organisational presence across Tamil Nadu through an aggressive membership drive and grassroots mobilisation programme.
The party focused on strengthening its structure at the booth level, while also conducting district-wise enrolment campaigns, youth outreach initiatives and public interaction programmes aimed at building a statewide support base.
The membership campaign gathered momentum in the run-up to the Assembly elections, with thousands of volunteers and local organisers tasked with expanding the party’s reach in both urban and rural areas.
Party leaders have consistently projected TVK as a people-centric movement committed to providing an alternative to the state’s traditional political formations.
The rapid organisational growth translated into electoral success during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. Contesting its maiden Assembly poll, TVK emerged as the single largest political force in the state, winning 108 seats and securing a vote share of 34.92 per cent.
The outcome marked a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics, as the Vijay-led party defeated both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), ending decades of political dominance by the two Dravidian majors.
Following the victory, Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 10 and assumed office with a coalition government supported by alliance partners.
Party leaders said crossing the two-crore membership milestone demonstrates the strength of TVK’s grassroots network and the enthusiasm generated by its emergence as a governing force.
They maintained that the growing membership base would help the party further strengthen its organisational machinery and expand public engagement across Tamil Nadu as it seeks to consolidate its position in the state’s political landscape.
