Rajkumar Hirani Says Pritam And Pedro Is About Gen Z And Millennials Coming Together

Rajkumar Hirani is stepping into the OTT space with Pritam And Pedro, and the filmmaker believes the series is much more than a cyber-crime comedy. Speaking at the trailer launch, Hirani revealed that the heart of the story lies in bringing together two generations with vastly different outlooks on life, technology and problem-solving. According to him, the series explores what happens when the old and the new are forced to work side by side.

Reflecting on his journey from theatrical blockbusters to streaming content, Hirani said, "Regarding that mention of 2003—let me clarify that my first film, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., was released in December 2003. Back then, films were shown on the big screen, and we used to worry about whether people's phones might ring during the screening. The difference today is that films are viewed on small screens—on 6-inch displays. People watch them on their phones, and we wonder: 'Will a notification pop up? Will they get distracted?' So, the underlying feeling remains the same—the joy of creating this film or OTT series. The journey was just as enjoyable."

The filmmaker went on to explain the central idea behind the show, adding, "And regarding that journey—the story of Pritam And Pedro is essentially a tale that bridges the old and the new; it’s about Gen Z and Millennials coming together and seeing what unfolds. That is what it’s all about." His comments offer a glimpse into the show's underlying theme of generational collaboration and conflict.

Set in Goa, Pritam And Pedro follows the unlikely partnership between Pedro Gonsalves, an old-school cop played by Arshad Warsi, and Pritam, a tech-savvy young hacker portrayed by debutant Vir Hirani. Their contrasting approaches to solving crimes create both comedy and tension as they investigate a cyber-crime mystery involving a kidnapped minister's son. The series also stars Vikrant Massey in a pivotal role alongside Boman Irani, Mona Singh and Sanjay Dutt.

Created and produced by Rajkumar Hirani and directed by Avinash Arun, Pritam And Pedro marks the filmmaker's highly anticipated OTT debut. Blending humor, suspense and a clash of generations, the series is set to premiere on JioHotstar on July 3, 2026.
