Dehradun, June 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) A man was arrested within 10 hours of murdering his elder brother following an argument over a financial matter in Dehradun’s Patel Nagar area, a senior police official said on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal said Shahid, 21, was arrested for killing Sohail Haroon on Sunday night in Bhuddi village with a .32-bore country-made pistol, which was later recovered at his instance.
Dobhal said after his parents left for Hajj, Shahid, an addict, withdrew Rs 10 lakh from his father's bank account using an ATM card and spent it on his extravagant and expensive hobbies.
When Sohail scolded him for this, Shahid assaulted him. In a fit of rage, Shahid turned off the recordings on the home's CCTV cameras and shot Sohail to death on the night, the police official said.
The SSP said that Shahid tried to mislead investigators by cooking up a false story of Sohail being murdered by unknown criminals.
He incited villagers to block the Dehradun-Paonta National Highway by placing his brother’s body there and demanding early police action in the case, the police said.
Dobhal said the police have also filed a case against the protesters for blocking the highway.
The police said their suspicion grew strong after they noticed that the crime scene had been tampered with, as the body had been removed from the scene.
During interrogation, Shahid confessed to the crime, and later the investigators seized two more weapons
In another case, the police said that they have arrested another accused in the Vinod Kashyap murder case in Vikasnagar in Bairagiwala on June 13. The number of accused has now risen to five.
To strengthen the investigation, the police are examining all CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene and are also incorporating information from eyewitnesses and journalists. Top Dehradun police officials have clearly stated that any interference with law and order will not be tolerated.
No one involved in this incident will be spared. In addition to the arrests made so far, other facilitators and co-accused are being identified. The police claim that all other absconding accused in the case will soon be arrested and sent behind bars.
Dobhal also shared information about the arrest of former MLA Suresh Rathod, against whom BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam filed a complaint in January for tarnishing his image.
Gautam had accused Rathod of using public platforms for making false statements about him, the police said.
The Dalanwala Police arrested him and produced him in the court, from where he has been sent to judicial custody.
