Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena-UBT slam Sejal Pawar on viral video row; advice against disrupting education

Mumbai, June 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena-UBT on Saturday lashed out at MBBS student Sejal Pawar following a controversy surrounding a viral social media video in which she allegedly made objectionable remarks during a stand-up comedy show.

Shiv Sena-UBT leader Kishori Pednekar, however, said that the student's education should not be disrupted in anyway.

Addressing reporters, former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar referred to Sejal Pawar as a "young and inexperienced girl".

"She is young in age and studying in third year. My personal opinion is that stress has increased a lot among everyone due to which people go to stand-up comedy shows and just laugh. But everyone should be careful now. People pay money to go there to laugh, and that is how the show is meant to be," the Shiv Sena-UBT leader said.

"But I feel that there is a lot of trolling happening on this issue. We, too, are angry that such an objectionable statement should not have been made. Sejal Pawar is going to become a doctor and joking about dead bodies or male or female private parts is wrong," she added.

However, Shiv Sena-UBT's Pednekar asserted that Sejal Pawar's education should not be disrupted since her parents might have certain dreams for her.

"But she (Sejal Pawar) should be taught a lesson," she said.

Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also hit out at the medical student, saying: "Sejal is going to be a doctor, and one should show due respect to the profession of doctors. You can understand how much courage it takes for someone to donate an organ to another person. Making fun of organ donation is not acceptable, and neither is making jokes about those who have passed away."

"Such matters should always be treated with respect and dignity. I am happy that an apology has been made, but the voice raised by the entire medical fraternity is justified. This is not a matter of joke," she told IANS.

Meanwhile, KEM Hospital and Seth G.S. Medical College on Saturday sent Sejal Pawar on a 15-day forced leave on Saturday, in the aftermath of the controversy.
