Nigerian, Maldivian Presidents congratulate PM Modi on historic tenure, hail his 'influential leadership'

Abuja/Male, June 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India, stating that this historic milestone reflects the enduring confidence and trust of the public in his leadership.

PM Modi on Wednesday became India's longest-serving Prime Minister, marking 12 years at the helm of the Central government.

In a post on X, Nigerian President Tinubu said, "I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic milestone of becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister. This remarkable achievement reflects the enduring confidence and trust the people of India have reposed in his leadership over three consecutive mandates."

"His dedication to public service, commitment to national development, and influential leadership on the global stage continue to inspire millions worldwide," he said.

Calling PM Modi a "great friend of Nigeria", Bola Ahmed Tinubu said that he is a "personal friend and trusted ally whom I can always count on".

"Over the years, I have come to deeply admire his wisdom, courage, and commitment to the progress and prosperity of his nation. As a distinguished recipient of Nigeria's national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), he has also contributed immensely to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two countries," he added.

"On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I wish Prime Minister Modi continued good health, wisdom, and success as he leads India to even greater heights," the Nigerian President said.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu also took to social media and extended warm greetings to the Prime Minister. He praised the achievement and underscored the importance of continued bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

"Warm congratulations to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister by consecutive days in office," the Maldivian President said.

"The Maldives looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with India, guided by mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared interests," he added.

PM Modi crossed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's record with 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister.

Nehru's tenure from 1952 onwards is considered for this comparison, as he headed an interim government between 1947 and 1952 before the country's first general elections were held.

While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served for more than 14 years in office, her tenure was not continuous, making Modi the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in the country's history. He has served from his first swearing-in ceremony in 2014 to securing successive mandates in 2019 and a historic third consecutive term in 2024.
