Islamabad, June 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan’s security situation is becoming increasingly alarming as the country grapples with multi-layered crisis beyond isolated militant attacks. Unless the authorities tackle both the violent manifestations of militancy and the underlying political conditions sustaining them, insurgency is likely to intensify, leaving civilians, security personnel, and provincial institutions increasingly vulnerable, a report has stated.
“Pakistan’s internal security environment is deteriorating at a pace that suggests the country is confronting not a temporary spike in violence but a deeper structural crisis. The latest incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan show that militant and insurgent groups are expanding both their operational reach and tactical confidence,” a report in ‘Stringer Asia' detailed.
“The result is a widening conflict landscape in which the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch insurgent organisations, cross-border militant networks, and state security forces are locked into an increasingly lethal cycle of violence," it added.
The report noted that Pakistan recorded 57 militancy-related incidents, causing 200 fatalities, including 85 security force personnel, 58 militants, and 47 civilians, between May 1 and May 17, this year.
“Several major attacks during this period demonstrate the intensity of the threat. In Balochistan, suspected Baloch insurgents killed three military personnel in Kech District on May 17, while Baloch Liberation Army cadres killed six security personnel in Dalbandin and three others in Mastung on May 16,” it further stated.
“Earlier, on May 13, security forces suffered further losses in Barkhan, Noshki, and Mastung. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nine TTP militants and four security force personnel were killed during an attack on an Army camp in Bajaur on May 14, while a suicide bombing and subsequent assault on a police post in Bannu on May 10 killed 15 policemen,” it added.
According to the report, the incidents underscore two overlapping theatres of insecurity confronting Pakistan. While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to face the resurgence from the TTP, Balochistan is witnessing an escalation of Baloch nationalist insurgency, led by groups including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) and theBaluch Raji Ajohi Sangar (BRAS) alliance.
“Yet the distinction between these theatres is becoming less rigid. Islamist militant groups, including the TTP and Islamic State-linked entities, have found space in Balochistan’s disorder, while Baloch insurgents have increasingly demonstrated the capacity to strike security forces, convoys, mineral transport routes, checkpoints, and highways,” it stated.
Highlighting Pakistan’s position at the top of the Global Terrorism Index 2026, the report said the country is confronting a complex and overlapping set of security challenges, including the resurgence of the TTP, Baloch nationalist militancy, Islamic State (IS)-linked activity, cross-border violence with Afghanistan, and worsening governance failures in conflict-hit regions. It stressed that these threats are deeply interconnected and cannot be addressed through military measures alone.
