Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari is non-performing: BJP

Chandigarh, June 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and member of the party’s national council, Sanjay Tandon, on Wednesday criticised Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari, alleging that despite being in office for two years, the Congress leader has failed to fulfil the promises and guarantees he made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Tandon said the MP had misled people by making tall promises and offering “fake guarantees.” He remarked that two years later, people are demanding answers and holding him accountable for unfulfilled commitments, adding that “non-performance is the only highlight of the MP’s two-year report card.”

Notably, Tewari had won by a slender margin against Tandon.

Tandon pointed out that when the MP sought votes, he campaigned prominently on the Congress’s ‘Guarantee Card’ and ‘Paanch Nyay’ agenda, particularly the promise under Nari Nyay to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh annually to every woman belonging to a poor family. He said two years have passed, but this much-publicised guarantee has been forgotten.

“The reality is that for the MP these promises were always political slogans aimed at getting votes rather than actionable commitments,” Tandon said.

He added that his earlier demand for Tewari’s resignation following the breakdown of the Congress-AAP alliance has become even more relevant today, as the MP has failed to fulfil even a single major promise made to the electorate.

“People are rapidly losing hope that the MP will deliver on any of his commitments. Most of the time, he remains out of the station and has increasingly earned the reputation of being a ‘weekend MP’. This has left the city residents in the lurch,” Tandon remarked.

The BJP leader further said all promises remain unfulfilled. He highlighted that assurances of 20,000 litres of free water every month and 300 units of free electricity to eligible families have not materialised.

Similarly, commitments regarding simplification of governance laws, ownership rights for rehabilitation colony residents, regularisation of alterations in Housing Board flats on the Delhi pattern, conversion of leasehold properties into freehold properties, regularisation of contractual employees, filling vacant government posts, and strengthening educational institutions have shown little or no progress, Tandon added.
