Bengal CM chairs third cabinet meeting, key decisions announced

Kolkata, June 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal on Wednesday took several key decisions in its third cabinet meeting after coming to power in the state.

The previous Mamata Banerjee government had created Maa Canteens during the Covid-19 period, where food was provided at various locations for Rs 5. The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, decided that the project will remain, but its name will be changed.

After the meeting, cabinet members Dilip Ghosh and Agnimitra Paul said food will be available at Rs 5 in more places than before. Ghosh stated, “Earlier, food was provided at 390 places for Rs 5. This time, food will be available at 110 new places. Food will be distributed from 500 centres. The name of the project will be Maa Ahaar.”

The Chief Minister also announced that money from the Annapurna Yojana would be deposited in the accounts of 28,25,769 people on Wednesday.

He said that, from now on, applicants will receive funds only after their forms are verified. On the occasion, Suvendu Adhikari, Agnimitra Paul, and Dilip Ghosh handed over cheques of Rs 3,000 each to five women.

Other decisions included celebrating West Bengal Day on June 20 instead of Poila Baishakh. Dilip Ghosh said a new statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee will be installed on his birth anniversary on July 6, with a location yet to be identified.

The state government also announced that 31.905 acres of land have been handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of fences at nine places along the West Bengal-Bangladesh border. Surajit Nath Mitra has been appointed Advocate General of West Bengal.

Agnimitra Paul said that after the construction of fences at 11 locations along the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur, 12.721 acres of land have been permanently transferred.

Additionally, 20 acres of land in Nagrakata are being transferred to the Forest Department, which will hand it over to the Railways for a railway project. Approval has also been given to transfer 20 acres of private land in Nagrakata to the Railways for the Sevoke-Rangpur broad gauge railway line.

The government decided to increase compensation for the death of sewage workers, extending it to cases of physical disability while working. The West Bengal SC, ST, OBC Development and Finance Corporation will be restructured, with 354 new posts created.

The Home and Hill Affairs departments have proposed increasing the salary of the Chief Minister’s Executive Assistants from Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.
