Kerala Police confirm 40‑year‑old crime after plea

Kozhikode, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) For nearly 40 years, a chilling secret remained locked away in the mind of a man burdened by guilt.

Then, in a move that stunned even seasoned investigators, 55‑year‑old Mohammed of Koodaranji walked into a police station and confessed to a crime that had never been reported, investigated, or solved.

“I have killed two people. Arrest me,” he told officers.

What initially appeared to be an unbelievable claim has now culminated in one of Kerala’s most extraordinary criminal investigations.

After nearly a year of painstaking inquiry, police have confirmed that Mohammed’s confession was not a fabrication.

Investigators have officially established that a man allegedly killed by Mohammed in November 1986 was Mohanan, a native of Iritty in Kannur district.

The breakthrough marks the unravelling of a murder mystery that had remained hidden for almost four decades.

The confession had left Kerala Police facing a daunting challenge. Mohammed claimed that he had committed two murders when he was just 14 years old.

With no formal complaint, no identified victims, and little documentary evidence available from that period, investigators were forced to reconstruct events dating back nearly 40 years.

Over the past 11 months, police examined missing‑person records, old documents, and local accounts while carefully verifying details provided by Mohammed.

The investigation ultimately led them to Mohanan, whose identity has now been officially confirmed.

After the breakthrough, Mohammed said he felt immense relief that the victim had finally been identified.

“It was a grave mistake committed at an age when I lacked maturity and understanding. Once I realised the enormity of what I had done, I felt compelled to confess. I am prepared to accept whatever punishment the law imposes,” he said.

Mohammed added that he hoped investigators would soon be able to identify the victim in the second alleged murder, which he claimed took place at Kozhikode’s Vellayil Beach.

The confession had initially been dismissed even by members of his own family. His brother publicly maintained that Mohammed was not a murderer and suggested that he was suffering from mental health issues.

The police findings have now dramatically altered that perception.

In the process, a troubled conscience, an unlikely confession, and a patient year‑long investigation have solved a murder mystery that lay buried for four decades, proving once again that some secrets refuse to remain hidden forever.
