
Bhubaneswar, May 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar, has apprehended a dreaded criminal following an encounter in the Info Valley police station area of Bhubaneswar in which the accused sustained injuries, informed Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Papun Majhi alias Papu (31), who originally hails from Jagannath Prasad in Ganjam district, and is presently staying at Dumduma under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar.
“Yesterday, the police received intelligence inputs regarding the presence of some notorious criminals on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar under the jurisdiction of the Info Valley Police Station. Subsequently, to prevent any potential criminal incident, a police team conducted a raid to apprehend the accused. During the operation, the accused allegedly opened fire at the police, prompting the police to retaliate. In the exchange of fire, one Pupun Majhi sustained bullet injuries,” added Singh.
The Commissionerate Police claimed that Majhi reportedly intended to deliver the contraband to local peddlers in the Jatni area. The operation took place during the wee hours on Wednesday in the Info Valley area.
The operation led to the seizure of 25 grams of brown sugar, one 7.65 mm semi-automatic pistol, and three rounds of live ammunition. Two police officials also sustained injuries in the firing by the accused.
Following the encounter, the accused was immediately shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment. Majhi is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, and police sources said that he will be interrogated after his recovery.
Singh further added that the accused Majhi is involved in more than 20 criminal cases registered at different police stations of the city and other parts of the state during the past couple of years. The charges against Majhi include various sections of the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, BNS and IPC, etc. A case (192/26) has been registered at Info Valley Police Station under sections 109(1), 132 of the BNS, 25, 27 of the Arms Act and 21(b) of the NDPS Act.
“This achievement reflects our steadfast dedication to eliminating the illegal Brown Sugar and firearms trade in Bhubaneswar,” asserted the Commissionerate police.
