Bhopal/Barwani, May 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madhya Pradesh Police have finally arrested 32-year-old Chandan Badole, who was on the run for 35 days after allegedly shooting his own father dead over a petty monetary dispute in Barwani district.
The accused was nabbed from the dense forests along the banks of the Narmada River, in a dramatic operation during which he attempted to escape by jumping from the roof of a temple and sustained injuries. Chandan Badole, who had a Rs 10,000 reward declared on his head, was captured following precise intelligence provided by an informant.
Despite multiple police raids in the forests and hilly terrain, the accused had managed to evade capture by frequently changing his hideouts and monitoring police movements.
He is currently in police custody and will undergo further interrogation.
The sensational patricide occurred on April 20 in Pichhodi village of Barwani district. According to police, a heated argument erupted between Chandan and his 58-year-old father, Jagan Badole, over money. Chandan had been persistently demanding more than Rs 2 lakh from his father, police had told IANS earlier. His father had already given him Rs 2 lakh earlier by mortgaging a piece of land. On that fateful afternoon, as Jagan was returning home with his wife, Gauri Bai, an Anganwadi worker, Chandan intercepted them on the road. A verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical scuffle.
In a fit of rage, Chandan allegedly took out the weapon, probably a country-made pistol, and shot his father at point-blank range in the head, killing him instantly. Gauri Bai, Chandan’s mother, who witnessed the gruesome incident, immediately alerted the police and narrated the entire sequence of events.
The accused fled the scene right after committing the crime. Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Mahesh Sunaiya had told IANS that tensions between father and son had been brewing for some time.
Chandan, who once worked as a welder, had been pressuring his father for additional funds in recent days. “Jagan had given his son Rs 2 lakh previously but refused to provide more, leading to escalating tensions,” the officer said.
Investigators revealed that Chandan had posted a “reel” on social media shortly before the incident, complaining that his father owned sufficient land but was depriving him of money.
After the murder, Chandan sought refuge in the forests and hilly areas along the Narmada River.
The Barwani Kotwali Police formed three separate teams to track him down, conducting extensive searches in the forests as well as at the homes of his relatives. His tactics and familiarity with the terrain made the manhunt particularly challenging.
Family sources disclosed that Chandan’s aggressive behaviour had already damaged his personal life. His wife had left him, and he had a younger brother who stayed away from the dispute.
The arrest of Chandan Badole brings some closure to the family, though the brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the quiet village of Pichhodi. Police officials have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if there were any other factors involved in the crime.
