Monica Bellucci joined French director La Mysius at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival premiere of their new film, "The Birthday Party" ("Histoires De La Nuit").
The film is Mysius' Cannes competition debut and also stars Hafsia Herzi and Bastien Bouillon in the tale of a family gathering that leads to the confrontation of their darkest secrets.
Also in attendance at the premiere were stars including Eva Longoria, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Gillian Anderson and Stellan Skarsgrd.
The Cannes Film Festival wraps up on Saturday night, when the winner of the Palme d'Or the festival's top prize will be announced.
Also Friday, a round of a-paws for La Perra, winner of this years Palm Dog award at the Cannes Film Festival. The Chilean movie took the top canine prize.
The quirky tradition on the Cannes beachfront was a celebratory affair, packed with journalists, dog lovers and, of course, plenty of dogs. The sound of barking was interspersed with the clink of wine glasses as eager pups posed for the cameras and socialized with their canine pals.
La Perra, which literally means the (female) dog and screened in the Directors' Fortnight sidebar, follows a solitary woman and her bond with an abandoned puppy, Yuri (named after the Mexican pop star).
The Palm Dog Award was founded in 2001 by film journalist Toby Rose with a mission to give equal celebration to canines at Cannes as their human co-stars. Former winners include Messi from Anatomy of a Fall, Brandy from Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood and Uggie from The Artist.
Also Friday, Penlope Cruz described how she suffered a health scare during the filming of "The Black Ball" ("La Bola Negra"), saying at a press conference that she was told she might be having a brain aneurysm.
"I thought I was about to die. This is something that I will remember as one of the most surreal moments of my life," she said. The Oscar winner went on to pay tribute to directing duo Javier Calv and Javier Ambrossi, for their "incredible support."
"The Black Ball" follows the life of three gay men at three different points in time - 1932, 1937, and 2017 - as they explore their sexuality, pain and inheritance. Cruz plays a Madrid cabaret singer.
And finally, the film's two directors called up one of their film's other star's, Glenn Close, as they were conducting an interview with the AP.
