Agartala, May 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Saha on Thursday urged the police force to deal effectively with cybercrime and crimes against women and children while stressing the need for a technology-driven and people-friendly policing system in the state.
Addressing the passing-out parade of the newly-recruited 91st and 92nd batches of recruit constables (men and women) at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh, on the outskirts of Agartala, the Chief Minister said that police personnel must discharge their duties with honesty, sincerity, dedication and a humanitarian approach.
“During the 11-month training, these 476 newly-recruited constables, including 318 women, were imparted training on traffic management, crowd control, disaster management, handling mob violence, tackling illegal activities and maintaining law and order,” said Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is fully committed to modernising the police force and would provide all necessary assistance to strengthen policing infrastructure and capabilities.
He observed that modern policing can no longer function without the support of advanced technology and said that police personnel must adapt themselves to emerging challenges, particularly in the field of cybercrime.
He added that ensuring the safety and security of women and children would remain one of the top priorities of the government and the police administration.
Saha announced that the recruitment process for 218 Sub-Inspectors in the Tripura Police would begin shortly.
He also said that the state government has already approved the recruitment of an additional 916 police constables and the process would be initiated soon.
Referring to earlier recruitment initiatives, the Chief Minister said that on May 13 last year, appointment offers for the post of constable were handed over to 975 youths, out of whom 476 have now successfully completed their training at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy.
He further noted that the participation of women in the Tripura Police has been steadily increasing over the years, which, he said, reflects the growing empowerment and involvement of women in the state’s law enforcement system.
Urging the newly-inducted constables to serve the people with commitment and compassion, Saha said that while strict enforcement of the law is necessary, police personnel should also maintain a humane and sensitive approach while dealing with the public.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of familiarising the newly-recruited personnel with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing the Colonial-era criminal laws.
He said that proper understanding and implementation of the new legal framework would be crucial for effective policing in the coming years.
Noting that the Tripura Police has a proud history of 150 years, Saha urged senior police officials and personnel to work collectively towards transforming the force into one of the best and most professional police organisations in the country.
Director General of Police Anurag said that during the training period of the 91st and 92nd batches of constables, the trainees were provided comprehensive lessons on crowd control, disaster response, investigation techniques, weapon handling and maintenance of law and order.
Jayanta Chakraborty, Principal of the KTD Singh Police Training Academy, also addressed the passing-out parade.
