Adapted directly from Marvel’s acclaimed comic series Spider-Man: Noir, first launched in 2009, the series follows an aging and emotionally worn-out private investigator who is forced to confront his forgotten past as the city’s only masked vigilante. While fans may remember the noir version of Spider-Man from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the new live-action series is reportedly not directly connected to the animated Spider-Verse storyline.
Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider — a grizzled, older version of Spider-Man from an alternate universe inspired by the crime-ridden streets of Depression-era New York. The final trailer leans heavily into black-and-white noir aesthetics, smoky alleyways, underground crime syndicates, and emotionally damaged characters, creating a visually rich atmosphere that feels closer to a classic detective thriller than a traditional superhero story.
The newly released footage also introduces several key players in the story. Lamorne Morris appears as Robbie Robertson, while Li Jun Li plays Cat Hardy. The ensemble cast further includes Lukas Haas, Jack Huston as Flint Marko, Brendan Gleeson as the feared crime boss Silvermane, alongside Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Andrew Lewis Caldwell, and Jack Mikesell.
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the trailer is Nicolas Cage’s transformation into the weary, cynical version of Spider-Man. Fans online are already praising the actor’s voice, screen presence, and commitment to the noir tone of the series. Cage previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in Into the Spider-Verse, making this live-action adaptation feel like a natural evolution of the character.
Unlike the colorful and energetic versions of Spider-Man audiences are used to seeing, Spider-Noir promises a darker, slower, and more psychological take on the iconic superhero mythology. The trailer hints at themes of guilt, aging, corruption, redemption, and loneliness, all wrapped inside a pulpy crime mystery inspired by classic film noir cinema.
The series has already generated strong buzz among Marvel fans and comic book audiences for its unique visual identity and mature storytelling style. With its blend of superhero action and old-school detective drama, Spider-Noir could become one of the most distinctive Marvel adaptations in recent years.
