Directed and written by Leah McKendrick, Voicemails for Isabelle follows Jill, played by Zoey Deutch, a young woman struggling to cope with the death of her sister Isabelle. To deal with the pain and loneliness, Jill continues leaving voicemails on her late sister’s old number, sharing everything happening in her chaotic life in San Francisco — from heartbreak and career struggles to hilarious everyday frustrations.
What Jill does not realize, however, is that Isabelle’s number has been reassigned to Wes, an Austin-based real estate agent played by Nick Robinson. As Wes begins listening to Jill’s deeply personal and often funny voice messages, he slowly finds himself emotionally connected to someone he has never met. The trailer beautifully teases how their unusual connection gradually turns into an unexpected romance.
The film also explores Jill’s dream of becoming a pastry chef while navigating grief and loneliness after losing her best friend and sister. According to the official synopsis, Jill’s messages often include stories about dealing with her difficult boss Chef Bastien, played by Nick Offerman, whose over-the-top antics add comic relief to the emotional narrative. Meanwhile, Wes listens from afar, falling for Jill “one voicemail at a time.”
Things take a dramatic turn when Wes finally decides to travel to San Francisco and meet Jill in person. However, the emotional core of the story deepens when he struggles with whether to reveal the bittersweet truth behind how he first discovered her. The trailer hints at a touching and messy love story where timing, grief, honesty, and emotional healing all collide.
Alongside Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, the film also stars Harry Shum Jr., Lukas Gage, Ciara Bravo, Megan Danso, Gil Bellows, Toby Sandeman, and Spencer Lord. The ensemble cast adds warmth and personality to what already looks like a refreshing addition to Netflix’s rom-com lineup.
The trailer has already started gaining attention online for its emotional storytelling, cozy aesthetic, and relatable themes about love and loss in the digital age. Fans are especially praising the chemistry between Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, with many calling the premise both unique and emotionally moving.
Voicemails for Isabelle is set to premiere on Netflix on June 19, 2026.
