Guwahati, May 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Minister and President of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Atul Bora, said on Wednesday that the overwhelming mandate secured by the NDA alliance in the recent Assembly elections reflected the people's confidence in the development initiatives undertaken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition government in the state.
Speaking to reporters here ahead of the first session of the newly constituted Assam Assembly, Minister Bora added that the scale of the electoral victory was unprecedented in post-Independence Assam politics.
"The people of Assam have given a huge mandate to the NDA alliance. After Independence, Assam has rarely witnessed such a decisive public verdict while forming a government," the Minister said.
He added that the election results clearly demonstrated public approval of the work carried out by the BJP-led alliance government, especially during the tenure of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from 2021 to 2026.
"This mandate proves that the people appreciated the developmental work carried out during the NDA government's tenure, particularly under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the last term," Minister Bora said.
The AGP President also spoke about preparations for the first Assembly session beginning on Thursday, where newly elected legislators will take oath.
He said the NDA alliance had formally proposed the name of senior leader Ranjit Kumar Dass for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
"Nomination papers have already been submitted proposing the name of Ranjit Kumar Dass. The BJP, AGP and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) have jointly proposed and supported his candidature," Minister Bora told reporters.
According to the Assam Minister, several senior leaders and newly elected MLAs of the alliance parties were present during the filing of the nomination papers, including Ministers and legislators from different coalition partners.
The AGP leader also said that all 126 newly elected MLAs of the Assembly are expected to take oath during the opening proceedings of the House on Thursday.
The NDA alliance, led by the BJP, retained power in Assam with a comfortable majority in the recently concluded Assembly elections, while regional ally AGP once again emerged as an important coalition partner in the government.
The four-day Assembly session is expected to witness the introduction of several important Bills and policy discussions by the new Assam government.
