Romanian director Cristian Mungiu premiered his new drama "Fjord" in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, joined on the red carpet by stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, Lisa Carlehed, Henrikke Lund Olsen, Vanessa Ceban, Jonathan Ciprian Breazu, Lisa Loven Kongsli and Markus Tonseth.
Later, arthouse darling Nicolas Winding Refn premiered his latest movie "Her Private Hell." The "Drive" and "Neon Demon" director was on the Croisette with stars Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton and Havana Rose Liu.
Elsewhere at Cannes, Cate Blanchett applauded the new cohort of her Displacement Film Fund at a press conference. The Oscar-winning actor, who has been an official UNCHR Goodwill Ambassador since 2016 and has spearheaded the fund, was joined by four of the five filmmakers that form its 2026 cohort.
"Palestine 36" director Annemarie Jacir, "Mo" comedian Mohammed Amer, "BTS: The Return" director Bao Nguyen, and "No Simple Way Home" director Akuol de Mabior will each receive a production grant of 100,000 to make a new short film. A fifth filmmaker, Rithy Panh, who was not present at the press conference, will also receive the same funding.
In its second year, the Displacement Film Fund champions the work of displaced filmmakers, or those who have a proven record in storytelling centered on the experience of displaced people.
