Ayushmann Khurrana Says Classic Romances and Comedies Never Go Out of Style

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is once again in the spotlight with his refreshing take on cinema while promoting his latest release Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Known for effortlessly switching between experimental roles and mainstream entertainers, the actor opened up about why he believes classic romances and comedies will always remain relevant, no matter how much cinema evolves.

During a recent media interaction, Ayushmann Khurrana was asked about his approach to comedy and whether he consciously tries to avoid repetition in his performances, especially in films like Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Responding in detail, he shared a thoughtful perspective on balancing creativity with audience expectations, while also explaining how he navigates between unconventional scripts and more familiar, classic storytelling formats.

Ayushmann Khurrana said: “Well, we really had to mix and match completely. Sometimes, you also have to perform a more generic, classic style of comedy. My next film, for instance, is a real "genre-breaker"—it features a very unique script. The film immediately following that is also quite unconventional and breaks the mold. In between, I’ve also done films like Action Hero. The subject matter of each project is distinct. However—as I mentioned earlier—I consciously choose to do these more "generic" films—like Dream Girl or Pati Patni Aur Woh—which fall under the category of classic comedies, so that my more experimental films can receive the necessary boost and exposure. This film falls into that category. After all, you can't be completely unconventional in every single film; it also depends on the kind of scripts and projects that come your way. Furthermore, I firmly believe that classic romances and classic comedies never go out of style.”

His statement highlights a rare balance in today’s entertainment industry, where actors often juggle between commercial appeal and experimental storytelling. Ayushmann’s approach reflects his understanding that cinema works best when variety is maintained, allowing audiences to enjoy both mass entertainers and niche-driven narratives.

He also spoke warmly about his co-stars in the film, praising the ensemble cast for bringing energy and depth to the story. According to him, performances from actors like Vijay Raaz, Himanshu Dhulia, Ayesha Raza, Guneet Singh Sodhi and Durgesh Kumar add authenticity and humour to the film’s chaotic world. He especially appreciated Vijay Raaz, noting his effortless ability to make audiences laugh even before delivering a line.

The film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is written and directed by Mudassar Aziz and features a lively ensemble cast including Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The supporting cast adds further layers of humour and emotional drama, making the film a full-fledged family entertainer.

Now running in cinemas, the film brings back the charm of situational comedy, romantic confusion and lighthearted storytelling. Early audience reactions suggest that viewers are embracing its nostalgic yet fresh tone, proving that classic comedy still holds strong appeal in modern cinema.

With his latest remarks and performance, Ayushmann Khurrana once again reinforces a simple truth he strongly believes in—stories may evolve, formats may change, but classic romance and comedy will always find their audience.
