Tips Music vs Puja Entertainment Legal Row Escalates: Label Issues Strong Clarification Over Film Music Rights

The ongoing legal dispute between Puja Entertainment (India) Ltd. and Tips Music Limited has taken a fresh turn after the court granted interim protection to Puja Entertainment in its case concerning the alleged unauthorised use of Bollywood intellectual property rights. Following this development, the music label Tips has issued an official clarification, firmly defending its ownership of the contested music rights and rejecting all allegations made against it.

In a strongly worded statement shared on its official handle, Tips Music Limited addressed the controversy head-on. The label emphasised its long-standing legal ownership and use of the music catalog in question, while also calling the claims by Puja Entertainment misleading and damaging to its reputation. The statement reads exactly as follows: "Tips Music Limited ("Tips") has become aware of a suit filed by Puja Entertainment (India) Ltd. ("PEIL") before the Civil Judge (Senior Division), Katihar, Bihar. While formal copies of the order are awaited, Tips clarifies that it is the lawful owner of the music rights in question, supported by valid and binding agreements between the parties. Tips has openly and legitimately exploited these rights for nearly three decades in full compliance with applicable laws. The claims made by PEIL are strongly disputed and appear to be malicious, misconceived, and intended to tarnish the reputation and goodwill of Tips. Tips remains fully confident in defending its rights before the appropriate courts and shall take all necessary legal steps to protect its interest and ownership of rights. Satyameva Jayate"

The dispute reportedly involves some of Bollywood’s most popular films, including Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Biwi No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa, and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. These titles carry significant musical value and continue to enjoy strong recall among audiences, making the ownership of their music rights a crucial point of contention between the two parties.

At the heart of the matter is also the proposed release and exploitation of the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which has further intensified the dispute. While Puja Entertainment has sought legal protection, Tips Music maintains that its rights are backed by valid agreements and decades of consistent usage. The matter remains sub judice, and further court proceedings are awaited, with the industry closely watching how the situation unfolds.

As the legal battle continues, both sides appear firm on their positions, setting the stage for a potentially significant judgment that could have wider implications for music rights ownership in Bollywood. For now, the entertainment industry is left in anticipation as the courts examine the claims and counterclaims surrounding this high-profile dispute.
