Patna, May 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Patna High Court has granted interim relief to Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Osama Shahab, staying any coercive or punitive action against him for the time being.
The court has also directed the state government to produce the case diary related to the matter.
The order was passed by a single-judge bench of Justice Ajit Kumar while hearing Shahab’s anticipatory bail petition.
The petition pertains to a case registered at Mahadev Police Station, Siwan (Case No. 73/2026), lodged on April 15, 2026, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In his plea, Shahab stated that no anticipatory bail application had been filed in this matter before either the High Court or the Supreme Court of India, and that no related proceedings were pending in the lower courts.
He, therefore, sought relief directly from the High Court.
According to the First Information Report, the complainant had purchased a plot of land and begun construction of a house.
It is alleged that Osama Shahab contacted the informant over the phone, asking them to halt construction and threatening serious consequences.
The complaint further states that when the work continued, Shahab allegedly arrived at the site with 30-40 armed individuals.
The group is accused of vandalising the property and assaulting labourers working at the site, prompting the filing of the First Information Report.
Counsel appearing for Osama Shahab argued that the land in question legally belongs to him.
The defence claimed that the complainant had encroached upon the property and initiated construction using forged documents, which led to the dispute.
It was also submitted that while three criminal cases are registered against Shahab, the present matter is rooted in a property dispute and alleged political rivalry.
The court has directed the state government to present the case diary at the next hearing.
Further proceedings and a decision on the anticipatory bail plea will be taken thereafter.
