Bihar govt cracks down on private schools, mandates fee transparency

Patna, May 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major move aimed at reforming the education sector, the government of Bihar has announced strict measures to curb arbitrary practices in private schools and enhance transparency.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to maintain close vigilance over private institutions and ensure strict compliance with regulations.

He also issued a stern warning that any violation of the new directives will invite strict action.

Under the new framework, all private schools will be required to publicly disclose complete details of their fee structures.

The government has made it clear that arbitrary fee hikes and unnecessary charges will not be tolerated.

In a significant relief to parents, schools will no longer be allowed to compel them to purchase books and uniforms from specific vendors.

Parents will now have the freedom to buy these items from any shop of their choice, which will bring them significant financial relief.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also emphasised that no student should be barred from appearing in examinations or receiving results due to pending fees, ensuring that academic progress is not disrupted over financial issues.

Sharing the announcement on the social media platform X, Samrat Choudhary said the initiative is a pivotal step toward ensuring transparency and accountability in private schools.

“It is now mandatory for private schools to disclose full details of fees. Arbitrary hikes and unnecessary charges are strictly prohibited. Students will not be denied exams or results due to pending fees,” he stated.

The Chief Minister's statement is significant, given the annual fee, tuition fee, and transport fee enhancements of 10 per cent each year.

Apart from that, many schools provide books, stationery, and uniforms to students on their campus.

The Samrat Choudhary government believes these reforms will make Bihar’s education system more transparent, equitable, and accessible, while effectively curbing exploitative practices in private institutions.
