A South African police captain who hoisted a crocodile out of a river in a daring effort to recover human remains has been praised for his "extraordinary bravery". Captain Johan "Pottie" Potgieter was lowered alone into a "crocodile-infested river" to secure the euthanized animal in a "highly dangerous and complex operation," the South African Police Service said in a statement Sunday. The crocodile was safely lifted and relocated by helicopter, enabling professional teams to recover the remains of the suspected missing person from the Komati River in Mpumalanga province, the statement added.
