Akhtar, addressing the gathering, began by saying, “I am honored to have been invited here, and this is entirely due to one person—Mr. Boman Irani. There are people in the film industry who are very successful; there are those who are very wealthy, famous, and so on. But while he possesses all of that, he has one additional quality that is extremely rare: credibility. The kind of respect he commands within the film industry is truly exceptional. And I believe that anyone he might have invited would feel privileged to attend—simply because he was the one who extended the invitation.” The words instantly set the tone for the evening.
He continued with even deeper admiration, saying, “Thus, what we are witnessing here today is, in reality, the manifestation of someone's honest efforts—someone's genuine desire to help and enlighten others. And for that, I have the utmost respect. And so, my salute goes to Mr Boman.” In an industry often driven by power and perception, Akhtar’s emphasis on “honest effort” and “genuine intent” struck a different chord altogether.
He didn’t stop there. Calling the evening a milestone moment, he added, “This is a momentous day for me, for all of us. And it is truly wonderful that we have someone amongst us—someone we know personally—who possesses such a golden heart, such noble intentions, such vision, and such a profound desire to help others. That is truly wonderful. Hats off to you, Sir. I hold you in the highest regard. Thank you very much.” The standing ovation that followed felt almost inevitable.
The gala itself, held on April 30, 2026, was organized to celebrate the rapid global expansion of Spiral Bound, Boman Irani’s screenwriting mentorship initiative. What began during the 2020 lockdown as small writing sessions has now grown into a powerful creative ecosystem of over 2,000 writers and more than 865 mentoring sessions, becoming a rare bridge between aspiring storytellers and industry mentorship.
The evening saw a galaxy of film personalities in attendance, including Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Farah Khan, Karan Johar, and Pratik Gandhi. But despite the star power, the focus remained firmly on writers and storytelling.
One of the biggest highlights of the night was Boman Irani’s announcement of a new international collaboration with Russia’s Moscow Film Cluster. The partnership will enable selected writers to travel to Moscow for creative exposure, studio visits, and cross-cultural exchange, with three winners from Spiral Bound already set to benefit from the initiative. It marked a significant step in taking Indian storytelling onto a global stage.
But beyond the announcements and celebrity presence, what lingered most was Javed Akhtar’s central message: credibility matters. And in his eyes, Boman Irani had quietly built something rare in the industry—a space where intent, trust, and storytelling come before everything else.
