Sharing his experience, Anjum Batra said: “You see, I simply didn't have the time to think about or craft this character, because I was already working on a film called Chamkila and had just wrapped up my work on it. The moment I wrapped up there, this project began immediately. Consequently, I didn't have enough time to contemplate this character, or to work on—or even think about—the specific nuances and intricacies of the role. However, all credit goes to the writers—specifically Mr. Saurabh Khanna, who wrote Season 1, and Kunal Aneja —who did a truly magnificent job with the writing. And then there is our director, Mr. Rahul Pandey; I simply did exactly what he told me to do. I always say one thing: "When you surrender, wonders occur." This applies to nature, and it applies here too—if you surrender yourself completely to your director, magic begins to happen.”
He further explained how the character of Mintu Singh evolved naturally during the process rather than through pre-planned preparation. According to him, the performance developed on set, shaped by instinct, direction, and continuous exploration rather than structured character building.
“The journey of inhabiting that character becomes incredibly smooth and effortless for you, and in this instance, they made that journey very easy for me. This realization actually dawned on me only as I was performing the role. I think it took me about four or five days to figure out which thread to pull—which specific angle or approach to latch onto—and once I found that anchor, I charted my course in that direction. It was something I grasped gradually, through the process of doing it. It wasn't as if I had consciously "built" the character beforehand; rather, as I performed, I began to realize, "Oh, wait—it could work this way too." You start exploring possibilities—thinking, "Okay, I can take it in this direction," or "I can try it like this," or "Mintu could be like that." So, those discoveries emerged through the actual performance, but initially, I simply didn't have the luxury of time to sit and ponder the character or engage in any extensive preparation. But again—all thanks to the director and the team” added Anjum.
His grounded approach reflects a journey shaped more by instinct and collaboration than rigid preparation, something that aligns with his broader career trajectory. Anjum Batra first gained attention with his role in Dev D and has since built a diverse filmography across both cinema and streaming platforms.
Over the years, he has appeared in projects like Amar Singh Chamkila, 83, Jersey, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, and Wild Wild Punjab, among others, steadily establishing himself as a dependable character actor.
Meanwhile, Maamla Legal Hai Season 2 continues to draw attention for its quirky courtroom chaos set in Patparganj District Court. With Ravi Kishan returning as V.D. Tyagi and a strong ensemble including Nidhi Bisht, Anant V Joshi, Naila Grewal, Tanvi Azmi, and Yashpal Sharma, the show blends satire and legal comedy with a fresh narrative twist this season.
Anjum Batra’s reflections add another layer to the show’s success story—one rooted in spontaneity, trust in the process, and creative surrender.
