Speaking about the film’s global reception and cultural reach, Namit Malhotra said, ““What’s interesting is a perspective I actually heard from someone in America. They said it feels like you’re bringing them one of the earliest stories of the world or the universe—something they don’t know much about. So it’s almost like presenting a timeless story that they are discovering for the first time. That creates a lot of freshness and excitement around it.”
“Obviously, for every Indian, this story is deeply personal. Our parents, our grandparents, and generations before them have grown up reading, hearing, and experiencing the Ramayana in different forms. So it becomes very meaningful to bring something on that scale to the big screen, with the heart that every Indian connects with.”
“I think the concept of the Ramayana is very relevant to the world we live in today, a world filled with conflict and division. These philosophies, when presented in the right way and without being preachy, can actually bring people together in a very powerful manner. That’s why I feel it is such a timely and important story. Along with other epics you mentioned, I believe global audiences today are more open than ever to new kinds of storytelling. We’ve seen enough of the same kind of content. Now it’s about what fresh perspectives and new stories we can bring to cinema” added Namit.
The statement highlights the ambition behind the project—to present the ancient Indian epic as a universal human story. The team believes that the emotional and philosophical depth of the narrative can resonate far beyond borders, especially in a world increasingly divided by conflict and cultural distance.
The film brings together a massive ensemble cast for this grand adaptation. Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi plays Sita. Superstar Yash takes on the role of Ravana, and action icon Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman. The cast also includes Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Arun Govil as Dashrath, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, and Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara.
Ramayana aims to combine cutting-edge visual effects with deeply rooted storytelling, bringing mythology to life on an unprecedented scale. Backed by global VFX powerhouse DNEG and Prime Focus Studios, the film is expected to set new benchmarks for Indian cinema when it begins its theatrical rollout starting Diwali 2026.
