Assam: FIR lodged against Kharge for remarks against BJP-RSS

Guwahati, April 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) A complaint has been filed against Mallikarjun Kharge at the Basistha Police Station in Guwahati on Tuesday over alleged inflammatory remarks made during a political rally in the state’s Sribhumi district.

According to the complaint lodged by Assam BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sarmah, the Congress president, while addressing a public gathering in Nilambazar locality in the Sribhumi district on April 6, reportedly made controversial statements targeting the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The complainant alleged that Kharge described the ideology of the BJP and RSS as “poisonous” and likened it to a “poisonous snake.”

It was further claimed that he made remarks suggesting the need to eliminate the BJP, which, according to the complaint, were derogatory and capable of inciting unrest. The FIR states that such comments have hurt the sentiments of BJP members and supporters.

It also accuses the senior Congress leader of attempting to promote enmity between different groups, thereby posing a threat to public peace and communal harmony in Assam, a state often regarded as socially and politically sensitive.

Sarmah has urged law enforcement authorities to take swift and appropriate legal action, emphasising that statements of this nature could escalate tensions among communities and disrupt the prevailing law and order situation.

Officials at the Basistha Police Station have confirmed that the complaint has been received.

They added that the matter will be examined in accordance with relevant legal provisions, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly will go to polls in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 4.
