Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up on Playing Lord Ram in Ramayana and the Life Change It Sparked

Ranbir Kapoor is stepping into one of the most revered roles of his career as Lord Ram in the upcoming epic Ramayana, and the journey, he reveals, has been as personal as it is cinematic. Opening up about his initial reaction, the actor shared, “When Namit offered me this part around four years back, my instinct reaction was no because I'm not fit enough, I'm not good enough, and I won’t be able to do full justice.”

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is envisioned as a grand two-part cinematic event, and for Ranbir, the role came at a transformative phase in life. He candidly admitted that his fear soon turned into gratitude. “Opportunities like this were very much needed in my life… there was a period where I needed to change my lifestyle,” he said, highlighting how the film coincided with major personal milestones.

One of the most touching aspects of his reflection was the emotional overlap between his real and reel life. “I became a father for the first time, and I think the sweet coincidence of playing Lord Ram and becoming a father was very much needed for the turning point in my life,” Ranbir shared, giving fans a glimpse into how deeply the role has influenced him beyond the screen.

The film itself is shaping up to be one of India’s most ambitious cinematic projects, reportedly mounted on a massive budget. Alongside Ranbir, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The ensemble also includes Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, and Rakul Preet Singh, making it a truly pan-Indian spectacle.

Adding to the scale, the film’s music is composed by A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, while high-end visual effects are being handled by DNEG. With action designed by Guy Norris and performance capture led by Terry Notary, the film aims to deliver a visually immersive experience, reportedly with narration by Amitabh Bachchan.

With Part 1 slated for a Diwali 2026 release and Part 2 expected in 2027, Ramayana is not just a film but a monumental retelling of an epic. And at its heart is an actor who found not just a role, but a turning point—transforming doubt into purpose, much like the journey of the character he now portrays.
