Actor Priyadarshi Pulikonda, renowned for his unconventional script choices, returns to the screens with Suyodhana, a suspense thriller that explores uncharted territory in Telugu cinema. Directed by Y.S. Madhav Reddy, the film features Drishika Chander as the lead, alongside veterans Sai Kumar and Prema. Released on March 27 to coincide with Sri Rama Navami, the film attempts a bold blend of psychological intrigue and emotional drama.
The Plot:
The story follows Varun (Priyadarshi), a Foley artist haunted since childhood by a recurring auditory hallucination—the word 'Suyodhana'—and unsettling visions of the mythological Duryodhana. His father, a former theater artist known for his portrayal of the tragic antagonist, abandoned the stage years ago to appease Varun’s childhood fears. Now an adult running his own sound studio, Varun realizes these visions are more than just trauma; they are a premonition of imminent danger. When his father, who has since transitioned into politics, is assassinated, Varun must use his unique connection to these sounds to navigate a web of political conspiracies and uncover the truth behind the "Suyodhana" mystery.
Performances:
Priyadarshi: Delivers a career-best performance. He portrays Varun’s vulnerability and psychological burden with a grounded authenticity that keeps the audience rooted. Sai Kumar: Dominates the screen with his commanding presence. His "Duryodhana-esque" persona adds a layer of gravitas and mythological weight to the film. Prema & Drishika Chander: Prema provides a strong emotional anchor as the mother, while Drishika Chander delivers a performance that is both meaningful and integral to the plot. Supporting Cast: Vishnu Oi and Devi Prasad provide solid support, ensuring the narrative remains focused on the central mystery.
Technical Excellence:
Director Madhav Reddy effectively maintains tension by leveraging the protagonist's profession. The sound design is the true star here, serving as both a narrative tool and an atmospheric builder. Jai Krish’s score complements the sound effects perfectly, heightening the thriller elements. While the production values are high, a few sequences in the investigative arc could have benefited from tighter editing. The
Verdict:
Suyodhana is a refreshing departure from standard commercial fare. Despite some minor pacing lulls in the first half, the film finds its rhythm in the second half, where the psychological and political threads converge. It is a thought-provoking thriller that successfully bridges the gap between ancient mythology and modern-day suspense.
